The Louvre

Hands for praying, hands for grabbing
Jan Van Eyck's The Virgin of Chancellor Rolin constitutes one of the 35,000 objects from pre-history to the C19th on exhibition.

Paris: an out-of-this-world experience

Belfast - Paris -Madrid - Gran Canaria was our route home. And an inspirational one. But it meant little time in The City of Light.

A fine rain greeted us on our first evening. A visit to the Louvre, supper in a brasserie, and a fast walk through the pouring rain constituted the first evening's entertainment.

Ireland: a quiet rest

Next day, it was off to Ireland. Nice to see Hollybrook looking and feeling so good. Richard, of course, had put flowers in my bedroom to welcome me home.

Azuaje

Our next stop was a visit to Azuaje, courtesy of our dear leader. This nature reserve is located within the Forest of Doramas, in the north of the island. Sadly, the balneario, which belongs to Rafa's family, is now in ruins, but it used to be a favourite haven from the harsh winters for northern Europeans in the late C19th, as well as being a romantic hideaway for local honeymooners.

Summer's here, at last!

What could be a lovelier way to welcome in the summer holiday than a special lunch beside the sea? EOI Santa BrĂgida chose to toast the occasion by going to El Roque - a place of enchantment overlooking the Atlantic.
